CẦN THƠ — The last two spans of the six-lane Vàm Cống Bridge linking Đồng Tháp Province and Cần Thơ city were connected on Friday.

The bridge over the Hậu River is 2.97 kilometres long and 24.5 metres wide. The approach sections of the bridge towards Đồng Tháp Province and Cần Thơ are each around 1 km long.

The bridge has four lanes for motorised vehicles and two lanes for non-motorised vehicles, allowing for a speed of 80 kilometres per hour.

The total investment of VNĐ5.7 trillion (US$271 million) comes from Official Development Assistance (ODA) provided by the South Korean government and reciprocal capital from the Vietnamese government.

The Vàm Cống Bridge is an important step in connecting the central area of the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta, according to the Cửu Long Corporation for Investment Development and Project Management of Infrastructure.

The completion of Vàm Cống Bridge and the Lộ Tẻ - Rạch Sói route will form a second transport route from HCM City to Kiên Giang Province’s Rạch Giá City by the end of this year. — VNS
