THANH HÓA — A boat with 17 fishermen on board was rescued after being stranded at sea for a day, according to the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre.

The fishing boat, captained by Trần Trí Long, a resident of Thanh Hóa Province’s Sầm Sơn City, broke down due to the fierce waves and strong winds.

Marine officials said they received a call for help from fishing boat TH 90867 TS on Monday evening. At 1am on Tuesday, the rescue ship approached the stranded boat some 96 nautical miles of Nam Định Province’s Lạch Giang Estuary.

Officials provided medical care to the fishermen, who were in low spirits after being at sea for some 10 days.
