Vĩnh Long reports 1st Zika case

The Vĩnh Long Preventive Medical Centre has discovered the first ever case of Zika in the province.

VĨNH LONG —  The Vĩnh Long Preventive Medical Centre has discovered the first ever case of Zika in the province.

The victim, 63, identified only as N.H.K. and from Vũng Liêm District, is in hospital and authorities are trying to identify the source of infection.

The patient had travelled to Đồng Nai Province recently. In January this year Đồng Nai had declared a Zika outbreak after six people contracted the disease.

The virus is spread by mosquitoes. The disease’s symptoms include a mild fever, a skin rash, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain and headache. — VNS
