HÀ NỘI — The Supreme People’s Procuracy has decided to prosecute three women for illegal transportation of drugs.

The three defendants have been identified as Trịnh Thị Hải Hà, 53, from Sơn La Province, Nguyễn Thị Hiền, 47, and Trần Thị Đông, 45, both from Hà Nội.

On April 18, 2016, Hà Nội’s Ba Đình District police in coordination with their counterparts in Hòa Bình Province caught Hà carrying 40 bricks of heroin, weighing 14.2kg, in a taxi on National Highway 6 in the province.

Following a deeper investigation, the police arrested Đông. According to the Công an Nhân dân (People’s Police) newspaper, Hiền, who was absconding at that time, was also arrested.

The three accused admitted to transporting drugs to earn a profit. Đông and Hà earned VNĐ10 million (US$440) after successfully transporting one cake of heroin from Sơn La to Hà Nội for Hiền.

According to the police, the three women, together, carried 73 bricks of heroin (some 26kg) from Sơn La to Hà Nội between the end of 2015 and April 2016.

Cao Xuân Hương, the taxi driver, who ferried the accused with heroin, has not been charged due to a lack of evidence, the police said. – VNS
