The appointment was made under a decision recently approved by Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc.

The committee, which has 18 members, was set up to consult with the government to resolve issues related to children as well as to assist with enforcing the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of the Child that Việt Nam ratified in 1990.

Following the decision, the committee appointed two vice chairmen, Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Đào Ngọc Dung and Minister of Education and Training Phùng Xuân Nhạ, and one vice chairwoman, Minister of Health Nguyễn Thị Kim Tiến.
