NINH THUẬN — Five people caught illegally trading explosives were taken into custody on Monday in Thuận Nam District of the central coastal province.

Police seized 500kg of explosives, the largest amount ever traded in the province.

Nguyễn Văn Thâm, 54, Trần Thị Nga, 46, Trần Thị Nụ, 35, Trần Thị Ngân, 44, and Nguyễn văn Tuyên, 48, were arrested while they were in possession of the explosives.

At the police station, the suspects confessed they were selling these explosives to individuals who used them for offshore fishing.

The district police have completed filing criminal proceedings.

In recent years, using explosives for fishing has become more and more popular and complicated, according to the Fishery Department of Ninh Thuận Province.

Since early this year, the department has uncovered 120 cases in which fishermen used explosives for fishing, which is against the law. — VNS
