HÀ NỘI — Vendors will no longer be allowed to sell fruits on pavements of the capital city’s inner districts.
The Hà Nội People’s Committee has approved a pilot project on managing fruit businesses in the capital city’s inner districts, which aims to create close links between fruit producers, distributors and management agencies and provide knowledge and training on food safety to fruit sellers and vendors.
The project target is to help 60 per cent of these fruit businesses to acquire business registration certificates, store signage, and fruit preservation facilities and equipment this year, and 100 per cent by the end of next year. Officials want to bring under control the origin and quality of fruits sold in the inner districts within the next year.
The programme also aims to establish online cashier and payment systems and fruit store databases for better management of the food chain in the city’s inner districts.
Authorities plan to increase inspections and handling of fruit safety violations and clear fruit vendors encroaching on pavements, roads and public spaces.
The project will be extended to the entire capital city if it is effective.
Last week, a four-year food safety programme was also launched in the capital city, under which booths that provide safe food will be set up at 30 apartment complexes by 2020. — VNS
