HCM CITY — Construction of a bridge to Kim Cương (Diamond) Island in HCM City’s District 2 is slated to begin in early September.

The four-lane bridge, 837 metres long and 27 metres wide, will go from Thạnh Mỹ Lợi residential area to the island over the Sài Gòn River.

Expected to cost VNĐ494 billion (US$21.7 million), it will be scheduled for completion before April 30 next year.

The bridge will provide an alternative route from Mai Chí Thọ Street to Ring Road No. 2 and Phú Mỹ Bridge, helping reduce congestion on Đồng Vàm Cống Street and around Cát Lái Port. — VNS
