HÀ NỘI — Deputy Prime Minister Vũ Đức Đam has asked the Health Ministry and related ministries to arrange devices to quickly check food quality at markets and trade centres.

Đam, who is also head of the inter-sector central steering committee on food safety, asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to work with the people’s committees of Hà Nội and HCM City to propose specific mechanism for slaughterhouse management in these cities.

In a recent document sent to relevant ministries, Đam said a question and answer system on food safety must be set up at the earliest.

He assigned tasks to the Ministry of Health in July to work with relevant agencies to prepare and submit to the Government task allocation to promote implementation of food safety policies and laws between 2016 and 2020.

In the first six months of this year, 23,441 inspection teams were established nationwide, conducting inspections at more than 443,100 facilities and discovering violations at over 81,000 facilities.

The environmental police have detected more than 3,000 food safety violations, with 433 organisations and 2,586 individuals flouting regulations. — VNS
