HCM CITY — A Government decree on the labeling of imported and Vietnamese goods aims to protect consumer rights by stricter management of the quality and safety of goods.

The decree, which took effect on June 1, replaced a previous decree, and has several new regulations and adjustments.

The new rules will also eliminate difficulties for many businesses.

The decree calls for the exemption of additional labels for imported components and materials that are not used for trading purposes.

Goods originally produced for export which cannot be exported and sold domestically will not need new labeling but will be required to have extra additional labels.

The new decree also contains provisions on prevention of smuggled goods and fake goods by requiring more information about the origin, production date and expiry date of split goods. — VNS
