City seeks 25,000 workers in June

Update: June, 05/2017 - 10:18

HCM CITY – As more start-ups have been established, HCM City’s labour demand has increased, with 25,000 permanent and 7,000 temporary jobs that need to be filled in June.

The main fields looking for workers are: sales, textiles, footwear, mechanics, automation, IT, transport, import-export, travel services and real estate, according to the city’s Centre for Forecasting Manpower Needs and Labour Market Information (Falmi).

Workers with a college or university degree make up 30.7 per cent of recruitment needs and those with an intermediate degree 18.9 per cent.

In May, Falmi conducted a survey of 4,277 companies with a total of 49,105 vacancies.

The survey found that mechanical engineering/automation and IT sectors have an increased need for experienced workers.

Forty-four per cent of the jobs in the mechanical engineering/automation field need experienced workers, with 33 per cent of the jobs requiring at least one year of experience. More than 9 per cent of workers in the field need to have two to five years of experience, and 1.4 per cent five years of experience or more.

Companies that need to recruit web designers and programmers, and other positions with similar skills, require at  least one year of experience.

The jobs attracting the most applicants were in accounting/auditing, marketing, administration, transport, import-export, architecture, IT and human resources, according to Falmi.

More than 75 per cent of the people applying for jobs such as accountant, human resources manager, director’s assistant and electrical engineer had a university or college degree.

Falmi also on Thursday reported that in the first four months of the year, nearly 42,000 people claimed unemployment allowance, with the figure predicted to increase next month.

In April alone, nearly 14,000 registered as unemployed, said Nguyễn Cao Thắng, deputy director of HCM City Jobs Placement Centre.

In the first four months, HCM City spent more than VNĐ653 billion (US$29 million) in unemployment allowance.

Many workers register for benefits from April to October every year, because after the Tết holiday, they want to find a better job with higher income, according to Thắng. VNS
