HÀ N Hà Ni Police have arrested three Chinese nationals on the charge of using fake ATM cards to appropriate property.

The suspects were identified as 40-year-old Zhu Hai Rong, 41-year-old Qiu Shui Bing and 37-year-old Zhong Jian Hue. They all reside in Jiangxi Province.

They said on April 20 they received 110 ATM cards from an unknown person, who asked them to use the cards to withdraw money in Việt Nam, promising to pay 5,000 yuan (US$724) to each person if successful.

Earlier, in March, Zhu and Qiu were instructed by a Chinese national on how to use the fake ATM cards to withdraw money at ATM machines.

After arriving in Việt Nam on April 22, they withdrew money from ATMs machines in Hà Nội’s Hoàn Kiếm District. They successfully conducted several transactions worth 10,000 yuan (US$1,448) that night.

However, they were caught red-handed by Hà Nội Police while attempting to conduct more transactions the following day.

All the cards and money relating to the crime have been seized by the police. An investigation into the incident is underway. — VNS
