HÀ NỘI — Facebook has committed to work with the Government of Việt Nam in keeping the Vietnamese community and advertisers safe and help small businesses grow in the country.
Head of Product Policy at Facebook Monika Bickert said this at a meeting with Minister of the Ministry of Information and Communication Trương Minh Tuấn in Hà Nội on Wednesday.
Highlighting co-operation and goodwill of Facebook, Tuấn asked Facebook to work closer with the Government of Việt Nam in preventing and removing fake accounts and fake news, explicit, hateful and violent contents or contents which are against Việt Nam laws and regulations on Facebook.
Tuấn said Việt Nam sees Facebook as a medium that helps connect friends and exchange experiences. Việt Nam does not prevent or ban Facebook or other social media networks, provided they comply with the country’s international laws and regulations.
The nation has a population of around 92 million people, 70 per cent of whom use the Internet, and about 45 million are Facebook users, Tuấn said.
Bickert said that Facebook will work with Việt Nam in various areas, including keeping the Vietnamese community and the advertiser safe and helping small businesses and developers grow, introducing Facebook Workplace, helping curb false news and lift news literacy.
“Responding to request of the Government of Việt Nam, Facebook outlined its Government Request process and report, which details their process for reviewing content against Facebook’s terms and applicable law,” Bickert said at the meeting.
“Facebook will take action against content that violates its policies and encourages users in Việt Nam to report content using their reporting tools so they can take swift action,” affirmed Bickert.
“We are committed to building a safe, informed and supportive community for the 48 million people in Việt Nam who use Facebook to connect and share with their family and friends and the things that matter to them,” said Bickert.
“We are also committed to helping small businesses in Việt Nam grow. Through our SMEs Boost programme, we plan to train more than 2,600 small businesses in Việt Nam,” Bickert added. — VNS
