Coach carrying one tonne of explosives, precursors stopped

Police in northern Lào Cai Province on Wednesday evening discovered a coach carrying more than one tonne of explosive material and precursors on National Highway 279 in Văn Bàn District.

LÀO CAI — Police in northern Lào Cai Province on Wednesday evening discovered a coach carrying more than one tonne of explosive material and precursors on National Highway 279 in Văn Bàn District.

The explosive material was hidden in 43 bags weighing over 865 kg, while some 300kg of precursor NH4NO3 was packed in six bags.

Coach driver Trần Ngọc Anh, 35, of Yên Bái Province, told the police he was hired to transport the goods from a man in Văn Yên District, Yên Bái Province, to Minh Lương Commune in Văn Bàn District, Lào Cai Province.

He was paid VNĐ8 million (US$353).

Police are investigating the case. — VNS
