VĨNH PHÚC – Picking out a lettuce leaf from the greenhouse garden, Israeli President Reuven Ruvi Rivlin had a taste of what Israeli technology has brought to Việt Nam.

The lettuce he ate was grown at a high-tech greenhouse garden of Vietnamese enterprise Vingroup, at Gia Khánh Commune in the northern province of Vĩnh Phúc, where the President and his spouse paid a visit yesterday morning.

He was greeted by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyễn Xuân Cường, Vinh Phuc Province People’s Committee Chairman Nguyễn Văn Trì and senior managers from Vingroup.

President Rivlin took a tour around the VinEco Tam Đảo greenhouses and the complete process, including planting, harvesting and packaging products at the farm, which were operated using technology from an Israeli company, Teshuva Agricultural Projects (TAP). Vingroup is the first Vietnamese firm to partner with TAP in terms of greenhouse technology transfer.

The field trip to VinEco Tam Đảo was the last activity for President Rivlin in Việt Nam, successfully wrapping up his one-week state visit to the Southeast Asian country.

The VinEco Tam Đảo farm, stretching over 78 ha, of which greenhouses account for 5.5 ha, is one of 14 Vingroup farms nationwide that apply advanced technology in vegetable farming. Vingroup is one of the first companies to invest in producing vegetable en masse, aiming at the fast-growing middle-class segment of the market who are increasingly demanding safe and clean food. – VNS
