HÀ NỘI  The Supreme People’s Procuracy (SPP) on Wednesday ordered full investigations on a 76-year-old man from Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu Province who is facing allegations of child sexual abuse, following public uproar.

After a meeting with the Bà Rịa -Vũng Tàu People’s Procuracy on Tuesday, SPP Procurator-General Lê Minh Trí asked the provincial agency to instruct the Vũng Tàu City police to conduct an immediate and thorough probe on the accusations against Nguyễn Khắc Thủy, who allegedly sexually abused at least seven children in his neighbourhood between 2012 and 2016.

Last August, the Vũng Tàu police began investigations after a mother filed a complaint that Thủy had sexually abused her six-year-old daughter. However, no progress was made in the case.

Last week, the delayed investigations in this case, along with two other cases in Hà Nội and HCM City, went viral on Facebook, provoking public outrage.

The SPP has also ordered provincial people’s procuracies nationwide to review all cases related to child sexual abuse and report to it by March 20.  VNS
