HCM CITY — A field hospital will be set up at the 175 Military Hospital in HCM City, possibly in July, to provide medical support in case of epidemics or disasters and to UN peacekeeping operations.

At a meeting held to discuss establishment of the facility yesterday, Major Bùi Đức Thành, its head, said its 70-strong staff have been trained to UN standards and also taught English.

In late June and early July equipment will be handed over to the hospital to prepare for its opening, he added.

Deputy Minister of Defence Senior Lieutenant General Nguyễn Chí Vịnh instructed the head of the 175 Military Hospital to review and requisition supplies and strengthen training.

The hospital and its staff would be ready to deploy whenever necessary, he said.

He also instructed the head of the 175 Military Hospital to co-ordinate with relevant agencies to send staff abroad to get operational experience.
