HCM City – Sài Gòn Port Zone 1 customs in HCM City has decided to prosecute Hùng Cứ Company for smuggling after a surprise check uncovered undeclared goods worth over VNĐ630 million (US$27,600).

Hùng Cứ, headquartered in District 1, had declared an import consignment of 725 steel sinks worth US$8,500 last August.

But customs officers inspected the shipment on September 15 and found there were also 300 plastic pots, 700 knife boxes, 360 steel trays, and 1,730 water drainage sets.

According to Sài Gòn Port Zone 1 customs, Hùng Cứ Company has committed similar fraud many times in the past to evade taxes.

The company claimed the discrepancy was due to a misunderstanding between it and its partner company, but authorities have rejected this. – VNS
