HCM CITY — The HCM City Police debuted and put into operation a specialised crime fighting unit in the city.

The unit, under the Police Department of Criminal Investigation in Social Order (PC45), is responsible for ensuring security and order in five southern districts - District 7, District 8, Bình Tân, Bình Chánh and Nhà Bè.

The unit is expected to be an “iron fist” against criminals, said Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Đinh La Thăng at the debut ceremony.

He stressed the unit’s members would promote tradition, increase sense of responsibility and improve their skills to combat criminals in a flexible manner, meeting expectations of the city’s authorities and people.

The unit and PC45 need to co-ordinate with relevant forces to map out detailed tasks and take breakthrough measures in preventing crime in the assigned areas, said Head of the HCM City Police Lê Đông Phong.

The unit may be rolled out in other districts if their activities are effective after one year of pilot operation.
