HÀ NỘI — Flower growers in Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu Province couldn’t be happier: their flowers are blooming beautifully just as Tết draws near.

Phạm Thành Tuần, owner of the biggest flower farm in Phước Trung Village, Phước Long Thọ Commune of Đất Đỏ District, grows several kinds of flowers in his 1.4 hectare garden. A week ago, he was worried that prolonged rain and extreme weather would harm to his garden. But as Tết approaches, the worries have been washed away.

His 20,000 lisianthus pots, 3,000 chrysanthemum pots and thousands of other kinds, are now almost at their peak beauty and will be at their best during Tết.

Tuần said he would make profits of VNĐ500 million (US$22,000) after this harvest.

Mai Hồng Sơn, another flower grower in Kim Dinh Ward of Bà Rịa City, said bad weather in November and December caused his families and others to spend quite a bit on pesticides.

“But as experienced flower growers, we know how to take care of flowers,” he said.

Sơn said he would earn VNĐ200 million ($9,000) this year.

A representative of Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu Province’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said there are 60 hectares of flowers for the Tết holiday in the province.

The price of most flowers increased from 20 to 30 per cent this year due to increased investment cost.—VNS
