HCM CITY – Some 15,000 people are expected to join the 12th Lawrence S. Ting charity walk at the Phú Mỹ Hưng Urban Area in HCM City’s District 7 on January 7.

The money raised from the walk will go to the local Fund for the Poor in districts 7, 8, Nhà Bè, and Bình Chánh to help poor families in these districts celebrate the Lunar New Year.

As of December 28 the organisers had already collected donations of nearly VNĐ3 billion (over US$130,000).

Part of the funds raised will go to the “The Common Heart of Gold” launched by HCM City Television and the Fund to Support Sport Talent administered by the city Department of Culture and Sport.

The walk would be shown live on HTV, the organisers told a press conference last week.

The annual event, which started in 2006, has raised nearly VNĐ23 billion (over US$1 million) over the years.—VNS
