HCM CITY – The HCM City People’s Committee has asked the Ministry of Planning and Investment for official development assistance funds to build its metro line No 3A from Bến Thành Market in District 1 to Bình Chánh District’s Tân Kiên Commune.

The route will be built in two phases, the first from Bến Thành to Miền Tây New Coach Station, and the second from the bus station to the terminal in Bình Chánh.

The 9.7km first phase will cost VNĐ40 trillion (US$1.82 billion), and the 10.1km second phase, VNĐ22 trillion ($1 billion).

Metro line No 3A is among the city’s priority metro projects. Work on line No 1 began in 2012.

A total of six metro lines, in addition to a monorail network, will be built in a city that is plagued by traffic jams and pollution. – VNS
