HÀ NỘI – Trial operation of one toll station on the Cầu Giẽ-Ninh Bình Expressway will start at 11.30am tomorrow, the Việt Nam Road Administration has reported.
At a meeting last month, Minister of Transport Trương Quang Nghĩa asked the Việt Nam Road Administration to remove the Đại Xuyên toll station on the Cầu Giẽ-Ninh Bình Expressway no later than January 1, 2017.
According to the Việt Nam Road Administration, two toll stations located on the nearly100km expressway was not necessary. The elimination of the Đại Xuyên toll station will help vehicles travel faster.
Mai Tuấn Anh, General Director of the Việt Nam Expressway Corporation (VEC) - the Đại Xuyên toll station collector, said in 2015 and the first half of 2016 alone, there were 70 traffic jam cases. Congestion was seen on both sides of the booth, covering a distance of 0.3km and going up to 3km.
The toll station is now under management of VEC and BOT Pháp Vân-Cầu Giẽ Company.
Profits from the station will be divided between the two companies. — VNS
