Party leader highlights significance of Việt Nam-Laos ties

Amidst a world full of complicated changes, Việt Nam-Laos friendship is more important to both countries now than ever, stated Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng.

VIENTIANE – Amidst a world full of complicated changes, Việt Nam-Laos friendship is more important to both countries now than ever, stated Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng.
He was addressing nearly 2,000 lecturers, officials and students of the National University of Laos in Vientiane yesterday, as part of his ongoing visit to Laos.
The Party leader said that Việt Nam will do its utmost to keep the relationship evergreen stable.
Looking through the history of ties between the two Parties and States, he said that Việt Nam and Laos see each other as faithful comrades, walking hand in hand together and supporting each other through the most difficult periods.
During the past 30 years of renewal, the two countries have promoted the relationship founded by late Presidents Hồ Chí Minh and Kaysone Phomvihane and nurtured by generations of leaders of both countries.
Important achievements in bilateral ties have contributed to the construction and maintenance of a peaceful regional and international environment, creating favourable conditions for socio-economic and national development and defence in each country, enhancing the position of both Việt Nam and Laos in the region and world, he said.
With the current regional and global situations presenting challenges and opportunities to each countries’ construction and defence, Việt Nam and Laos have still prospered in various fields, showing that the path their Parties have chosen was the right one, noted the Party leader.
Both the 12th Congress of the Việt Nam Communist Party and the 10th Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party reaffirmed the goal of national independence and socialism as well as determination to speed up the renewal course, he stated.
Expressing his feelings towards the youth of both countries, he stressed that youths are the backbone of a country, the pioneering force of revolution and the future owners of the nation.
He urged youngsters of both nations to work hard to improve their knowledge and morality to become a high quality workforce that drive industrialisation and modernisation in each country as well as stronger Việt Nam-Laos ties.
Leaders put their trust in the youth, he affirmed, expressing his hope that the youngsters will increase exchanges, while promoting ties between Việt Nam and Laos.
Founded in 1996, the National University of Laos is the only national university of the Southeast Asian country. It provides courses in 11 majors, including economics and business administration, architecture, engineering, agriculture and education.
On the occasion, Party General Secretary Trọng presented 30 sets of computers to the university.
Earlier the same day, the Party leader and the Vietnamese delegations laid a wreath at the Heroic Martyrs’ Monument in Vientiane and visited the Kaysone Phomvihane Museum and President Souphanouvong Commemorative House. — VNS
