HÀ NỘI — There will be more trains between Hà Nội and other provinces and cities to meet the increase in commuter traffic on the occasion of Lunar New Year (Tết) Festival next year.

The Hà Nội Railway Transport Joint Stock Company (HARACO), a subsidiary of Việt Nam Railway Corporation (VNR), has decided to add 21 train trips on the Hà Nội-Vinh, Hà Nội-Hải Phòng and Hà Nội-Đà Nẵng routes.

It will operate double trains on the Hà Nội-Sài Gòn, Hà Nội-Vinh, Hà Nội-Lào Cai, Hà Nội-Yên Bái, Hà Nội-Hải Phòng and Yên Viên-Hạ Long routes to accommodate more people both just before and after Tết.

The VNR said it would run these additional routes from January 17 to February 12, 2017.

HARACO is also making arrangements for more trains and carriages in case there is a sudden spurt in commuter traffic on the peak days.

Train tickets for the holiday season started being sold in the beginning of October last year. Passengers can book tickets online at dsvn.vnvietnamrailway.vn and vetau.com.vn or at local railway stations.

Passengers are not allowed to buy more than four one-way tickets at a time. Between September 25 and 30, 20 per cent of the tickets were sold to passengers travelling in groups.

Train tickets before, during and after Tết are still available. The HARACO said that 60 per cent of the train tickets have been sold as of November 23.
