HCM CITY — Six more patients have tested positive for the Zika virus, increasing the total number of Zika incidences to 35, according to the city’s Department of Health.

Compared to the last two weeks, the number of incidences have fallen. During that time, 24 new cases were detected.

Improved environmental hygiene and the spraying of mosquitoes and larvae over the last two weeks have helped reduce the number of new cases.

The Ministry of Health and the city’s People’s Committee have asked the department and agencies to continue strengthening environmental hygiene until the end of December to reduce the number of Zika and dengue fever cases.

As of the beginning of the year, the city has had 15,874 patients infected with dengue fever, an increase of 10 per cent compared to the same period last year.  —VNS
