HCM CITY — Lê Hồng Phong High School for Gifted Students won first prize in the English Speaking Contest for high school students in HCM City, held by Việt Nam-based Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation’s Regional Training Centre (SEAMEO RETRAC).

The event was held to celebrate 20 years of SEAMEO RETRAC’s establishment.

In the contest, students at four high schools on Thursday (Nov 10) competed in the contest’s final round, watched a short video, and gave a four-minute speech on the video’s message.

The contest’s jury asked the students questions about topics the video had addressed.

The four schools included Lê Hồng Phong High School, Trần Đại Nghĩa High School for gifted students, Phan Đăng Lưu and Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai.

Phan Đăng Lưu High School students won the second prize. The two remaining schools took third place.

The contest aims to give students opportunities to practise English and to gain confidence about their speaking skills.

It began on October 6, attracting students at 11 high schools in the city. —VNS
