HÀ NỘI – A technical assistance project funded by the Dutch government has been successful in enhancing training capacity for the Water Resources University and the Hanoi University of Natural Resources & Environment.

The assessment was made at a review meeting held in Hà Nội yesterday by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Việt Nam.

The project, worth nearly 1.32 million euros, was carried out from 2012 to 2016 and aims to help the two universities and other partners train high-quality human resources for the sustainable development of water resources in Việt Nam.

Addressing the event, MoNRE Deputy Minister Chu Phạm Ngọc Hiến highlighted the positive contribution the Niche project has made to the two universities over the past five years.

Increasing the capability of training personnel for the water resources sector is very important in the context of climate change, with droughts, salt intrusion, floods, pollution and natural resource exhaustion all affecting the country, Hiến said.

Echoing the deputy minister, Rector of the Hanoi University of Natural Resources & Environment Nguyễn Ngọc Thanh expressed his hope that the project will help expand the water resource management training network at home and abroad. — VNS
