HCM CITY — Staff at Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport had to check in customers manually after the computer system developed problems yesterday.

Passengers at the international terminal had to wait longer than usual while they were going through formalities to board their flights, Người Lao Động Newspaper quoted sources as saying.

The problem began at 5:30am when the earliest flights of the day began arriving at the airport.

The computer system used for check-in procedures was not operating properly, affecting all international flights departing Tân Sơn Nhất yesterday morning. The domestic terminal was not affected.

Lại Xuân Thanh, director general of the Civil Aviation Authority of Việt Nam, said the computer system was inactive and the screen updating flight information was unavailable. The announcement speaker system also had problems.

He said the computer system was not hacked and that the disruption was due to an IT upgrade of the computer system. Everything resumed normally at 8:30am on the same day.

At least six flights of Vietnam Airlines and seven other international airlines were affected. — VNS
