HÀ NỘI - A collision between a dump truck and a four-seater car caused hours-long traffic jam on Phan Trọng Tuệ Road in Thanh Trì District in the southeastern side of Hà Nội this morning.

Thousands of vehicles were stuck on the 3km stretch in the area near the Tó Bridge and the Đại Thanh Urban Area from around 7.30am until 10.30am.

Thái Huy Văn, a police officer of section 14 of Hà Nội’s Transport Police, said the collision was not serious but had caused a major traffic jam because it happened during the rush hour.

The police had to dispatch more than 10 officials to support the two on-duty officials in that area to manage the traffic.

Nguyễn Việt Dũng, a resident of Đại Thanh Urban Area, said he had been waiting for two hours but had not moved.

Several people had to call their offices to inform them they would be late or absent.

“I asked for leave in the morning because with the situation as it is currently, it is very likely that I will not get to the office before noon,” Nguyễn Thị Mai from Thanh Trì District said.

Some people drove their vehicles onto the pavements of the Đại Thanh Urban Area but were still unable to find a way out.
