HÀ TĨNH — A man and his daughter drowned yesterday while the father was trying to teach the girl swimming in central Hà Tĩnh Province.
The incident took place at Thạch Hà District’s Ngọc Sơn Commune at about 2pm yesterday. When Hoàng Văn Thủy, 54, returned home, he saw his daughter Hoàng Thị Cẩm Tú trying to learn how to swim in the family’s pond. Thủy decided to teach her and while entering the pond slipped in the deep water.
Seeing her father struggling to stay afloat, Tú shouted for help and tried to rescue him. They both, however, drowned.
Earlier, on Friday, three children drowned in Hương Sơn District’s Sơn Lễ Commune.
The victims, who had gone swimming in the Nội Tranh dam, were identified as Nguyễn Thị Song Thao 12, Nguyễn Thị Thu Hoài, 12, and Phan Thị Tuyết, 10.
Nguyễn Văn Duẩn, chairman of Sơn Lễ Commune’s People’s Committee, said relevant authorities and local residents rushed to the scene as soon as they were informed of the incident.
However, all three students were already dead when they were brought out of the water. — VNS
