HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese entertainer Hồng Minh Quang, popularly known as Minh Béo, pleaded guilty today at a court in California, United States, to having sex with a minor.

In March this year, Quang was charged with one count each of oral copulation with a minor, attempting to commit a lewd act upon a child under the age of 14, and meeting with a minor with intent to engage in lewd conduct.

Beo pleaded guilty to the first two of the three crimes.

Béo was accused of engaging in oral sex with a boy on March 23, when the victim arrived for an audition, according to prosecutors. The boy reported the incident to Garden Grove police, who launched an investigation.

The next day, an undercover Garden Grove officer posing as a minor under the age of 14 communicated with Béo, prosecutors said. Beo was accused of attempting to set up a meeting with the officer with the intent of committing sexual assault and was subsequently arrested. Beo did not plead guilty to this accusation.

Under the plea deal, Beo will be sentenced in December to 18 months in state prison and must register as a sex offender for life.—VNS
