HÀ NỘI — The regulation to penalise drivers who drive through yellow traffic lights will be reviewed and cancelled if it is found improper and impractical, Police Major General Trần Thế Quân said.

The fine, which came into effect on August 1, was introduced to improve compliance with traffic laws.

But the new rule has led to several controversies, especially on social networks.

The new rule says that vehicles that run yellow traffic lights will be fined amounts similar to fines for jumping red signals.

The yellow signal is still an indicator that the traffic light is about to turn red, but drivers will no longer be allowed to drive through it.

The transport ministry, which is enforcing the rule, said the fine would help to improve compliance with traffic laws. But people think the rule is not a practical one. — VNS
