PHÚ YÊN — A 27-year-old patient, from Sơn Hòa district’s Sơn Hội commune, was yesterday confirmed as the third in Việt Nam to be affected with the Zika virus. The first two cases were found in central Khánh Hòa province and HCM City.

He was admitted to Sơn Hòa district’s hospital on June 30 after feeling sick and had symptoms such as fever, headache and hives. He was initially diagnosed with dengue fever.

His blood sample taken at the hospital was later sent to the provincial preventive health centre and the Nha Trang Pasteur Institute in central Khánh Hòa province for testing. Tests by the institute confirmed that he had the Zika virus.

The health ministry immediately asked health departments at localities nationwide, particularly Phú Yên Province, to take measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

The health sector said it had conducted 2,405 tests on samples collected from suspected Zika patients nationwide so far this year. — VNS
