HCM CITY— The HCM City People’s Committee has instructed all city agencies and city-owned enterprises to replace communication by paper with text messages and emails.

Trần Vĩnh Tuyến, deputy chairman of the committee, has signed an order instructing all city agencies to stop sending paper letters from July 20.

The move is aimed at enhancing the use of information technology and foster e-governance to make the government apparatus work more efficiently and transparently.

More than 2,200 paper letters that are sent every year would now be replaced by SMSs and emails, saving more than VNĐ390 million (US$17,500) according to the People’s Committee Office.

The committee also said it would no longer accept documents submitted without electronic files attached. — VNS
