HÀ NỘI — Search and rescue forces of the Ministry of National Defense have found two black boxes from the CASA-212 aircraft coded 8983 at the depth of nearly 60 metres underwater, 26 nautical miles from Bạch Long Vỹ island area off Hải Phòng City. Two more bodies from the nine member crew were also found.

Relevant departments are proceeding with the identification of the found bodies and black box decoding.

The ill-fated CASA-212 crashed when it was on a search and rescue mission for two fighter jet pilots whose Sukhoi Su-30MKI had crashed into the ocean during a training exercise on June 14.

All nine crew members onboard were confirmed to have died.

Senior Lieutenant General Võ Văn Tuấn of the People’s Army of Việt Nam said in a press conference on Friday that weather and altitude could be factors which combined to cause the accident.

Information from the black boxes and other factors will help determine the actual cause of the incident.—VNS
