HCM CITY — Police in HCM City has proposed to the Ministry of Public Security a plan to revive the special anti-burglary force to deal with robberies in the city.

Lieutenant General Lê Đông Phong, director of the police department, said that under instructions from the municipal Party Secretary Đinh La Thăng for a plan to re-establish the anti-burglary force in the city, the agency had studied and proposed several measures in this respect to the ministry, Phong said.

The measures include doubling the number of officials for the task force, supplying more vehicles, radios, guns, and armour.

The force will also co-ordinate with the mobile police, and the traffic police to constantly patrol the city.

Theft and robberies had tended to increase recently, Deputy Director of the Police Agency Phan Anh Minh said at a recent workshop to review crime prevention operations.

In early 2008, the police agency had established a team called PC45 to tackle the rising crime in the city, he said.

The force was responsible for arresting robbers on the road and in areas around residential complexes.

Many people said that the re-establishment of the special anti-burglary force was necessary.

A resident Mai Thu Hà said to that she hoped the special force would soon be established.  VNS
