CÀ MAU (VNS) — A fire broke out yesterday at Đức Tài composite production joint-stock company in Cà Mau City of this southern province, destroying the 1,500sq.m. workshop.

Company Director Lưu Đức Tài said the fire spread quickly because the workshop contained flammable plastic materials and chemicals for composite production, noting that “at present, it is the dry season in the south.”

Four trucks, two canoes, three high-capacity pumps and tens of firemen from Cà Mau Province’s rescue and fire-fighting police stations were dispatched to the site immediately to prevent the spread of the blaze.

The workshop was surrounded by a concrete wall, so fire-fighters had difficulty getting close to the site.

The fire was finally put out two hours later.

The damage to the property amounted to some VNĐ1.6 billion (about US$72,000).

Chairman of Cà Mau Province’s People’s Committee Nguyễn Tiến Hải arrived at the scene and directed the local authorities to provide urgent assistance to the joint stock company. — VNS
