HCM CITY — HCM City on March27 began the first phase of the project to renovate the 130-year-old municipal People’s Court building.

The building, constructed in 1881 in Bến Thành ward, District 1, is one of the three typical architectural structures of the city, along with the headquarters of the municipal People’s Committee and the municipal Post Office. It was recognised as a national architectural relic site in 2012.

According to Chief Judge of the municipal People’s Court Ung Thị Xuân Hương, the project will cost VNĐ320 billion (US$14.3 million).

The first phase of the project, which will include repairs on the roof and building interior, is expected to be completed in less than one year, Hương said.—VNS
