QUẢNG NINH (VNS) — Police in the north-eastern Quảng Ninh Province have remanded 91 gamblers in custody for further investigation.

The move came after the police cracked down on an illegal casino, caught more than 100 gamblers in the act, and seized more than VNĐ431 million (US$19,300), 156 phones and other items in Tràng Bạch Village on March 5.

The police are hunting for the two ring leaders who managed to escape from the area.

According to the police, the ring leaders often changed the place where the gambling was held from Hải Phòng to Hải Dương and then Quảng Ninh to avoid being detected by the police.

The gambling site was guarded by several bodyguards. Therefore, the police had to take a train to reach a railway station near the site before raiding it.

The police said most of the gamblers were from Quảng Ninh, Hải Phòng, Bắc Giang and Hà Nội, besides Hải Dương. — VNS
