HCM CITY (VNS) — Cho Ray Hospital in HCM City will carry out projects to improve the quality of health check-ups and treatment as well as promote advanced medical technologies, Dr. Nguyen Truong Son, the hospital's director, has said.

The hospital is preparing for the construction of the Viet Nam-Japan Friendship Hospital (Cho Ray's second hospital) in Binh Chanh District's Le Minh Xuan Commune.

The 1,000-bed hospital is expected to start construction next year and open by 2020.

At Cho Ray Hospital, the use of robots for surgery is slated to begin in the third quarter of the year, according to Son.

In addition, the hospital's heart centre this year would begin performing heart transplantation, he added.

The hospital received a first-class labour order at its 115th anniversary ceremony yesterday (Feb 23).

Nguyen Thi Xuyen, deputy minister of health, praised the outstanding achievements of the hospital, particularly in organ transplantation.

As a top-level medical centre and the largest practice centre for medical students in the southern region, the hospital should put more effort in scientific research and improve the quality of health treatment, Xuyen said.

The 2,640-bed hospital provides health examinations for an average of 4,160 patients per day and receives an average of 2,500 in-patients per day. — VNS
