Container movement restricted for NH 5 renovation

HAI PHONG (VNS) — Containers weighing more than 15 tonnes are banned from using a stretch of NH 5 in Hai Phong City that is being renovated.

Starting today, a stretch of National Highway 5 in Hai Phong City (including Nguyen Binh Khiem – Nguyen Van Linh – Ton Duc Thang roads) is closed for renovation.

According to new traffic directions issued by the transport department of Hai Phong, all cars, motorbikes and rudimentary vehicles can use the lane extending from Ha Noi to Hai Phong as usual. Containers with gross weight of more than 15 tonnes (including goods' weight) are banned from using the lane extending from Hai Phong to Ha Noi from 5am to 10pm, except for containers going to inspection stations.

Containers weighing more than 15 tonnes and travelling from Hai Phong ports to Quan Toan can take the Hai Phong Port – Ha Noi Highway – Hai Phong – National Highway 10 route.

It will be business as usual for containers weighing less than 15 tonnes, coach buses, as well as cars, motorbikes and other vehicles.

Containers weighing more than 15 tonnes (tare weight) and other types of vehicles are allowed to travel on the highway from 8pm to 5am.

Vehicles that have parking lots in the closed stretch must have licences issued by the road traffic police division (under the Hai Phong police department) to load and unload goods in the lots. — VNS
