Blaze burns down tonnes of scrap storage

AN GIANG (VNS) — Hundreds of tonnes of scrap and used tires were burnt to ashes in a major blaze yesterday in the Mekong delta province of An Giang.

The fire reportedly broke out at 4:30pm in My Tho area in Long Xuyen City, creating a column of smoke detectable from as far as five kilometres. The place on fire was an area filled with used cars co-owned by Huynh Van Tung and Huynh Van Nhan.

Four fire trucks and hundreds of firefighters were deployed to the scene where the flames were put out two hours later.

Total losses were yet to be estimated.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire. — VNS
