HCM CITY (VNS) — Doctors at Cho Ray Hospital in HCM City have saved the life of a woman and her baby after performing a successful aortic valve-sparing operation.
The Stanford type A acute aortic dissection was performed on the woman who was 34 weeks pregnant.
On January 21, the 31-year-old woman from Kien Giang Province was sent to the hospital's emergency department after a sudden onset of severe chest pain and shortness of breath.
She was diagnosed with acute aortic dissection, a life-threatening condition that requires early diagnosis and treatment for survival, said Nguyen Thai An, head of the hospital's post-anesthesia care and cardiac surgery department.
A team of surgeons from Cho Ray and Hung Vuong Obstetrics Hospital conducted an eight-hour operation, including an emergency Cesarean section to deliver the baby and repair the dissection.
The patient and her 2.6-kg son are in stable condition, An said. — VNS
