HCM CITY (VNS) — Parents wanting their children to receive serviced vaccines in HCM City no longer have to wait very long as the number of children has reduced remarkably compared with last month.

Bach Thi Chinh, from HCM City Preventive Health Centre, said the number of children brought to the centre for vaccinations was not as much as last month. Parents did not have to suffer overcrowding while waiting for their children to receive vaccinations.

Chinh attributed the situation to well-arranged schedules for children at the centre.

Meanwhile, the registration via hotline 1080 is also underway smoothly. Many parents said they could connect with the switchboard operator at the first attempt.

The online registration has helped to prevent overcrowding when residents register at the vaccination centre's headquarters.

According to the City's Department of Health, about 12,500 shots of the Pentaxim vaccine are available for children at the city's 77 vaccination centres in HCM City as from Thursday.

Pentaxim is a 5-in-1 combination vaccine to immunise against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, and polio, along with Haemophilus influenzae type B.

Last month, more than 17,000 doses of Pentaxim vaccine were supplied for 73 vaccination centres across the city. Due to the shortage of vaccines, parents had to queue up at midnight to register for the vaccination.

Anxious parents made hundreds of calls to 1080 to register for receiving the vaccine for their children, but many ended up disappointed as they could not get through the number. — VNS
