THUA THIEN-HUE (VNS) — The A Roang hydropower plant in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue's A Luoi district was put into operation yesterday, helping the locality access the national grid.

The plant is designed to have 7.2 MW and generate an annual average electricity output of about 30 million kWh.

The project has a total investment of VND240 billion (US$10.7 million), of which 60 per cent was funded through a loan from the Asia Development Bank (ADB), the rest came from the Central Power Co-operation (EVNCOC).

The plant, located about 25 km from the district's centre, is built in upper Bo River.

The project has a significant role in supplying electricity to locals and improving electricity quality for mountainous areas, as well as generating jobs for local ethnic people. — VNS
