HCM CITY (VNS) — Police in HCM City yesterday cracked a methamphetamine ring after arresting seven suspects involved in the ring operating between Viet Nam and China.

The ring was headed by 25-year-old Hai Phong native Do Thai Dung, according to police.

Police seized 18.5kg of methamphetamine, 99 pills, and 120 grams of heroin, as well as VND600 million (US$26,800) in cash.

According to investigators, Dung had been working with Do Quang Hung, 36, and Vuong Duy Hien, 37, from Hung Yen Province.

After smuggling drugs into Viet Nam, Dung asked Hung to take the drugs to HCM City to sell to small drug dealers, the police said.

Earlier this year, Dung recruited Ha Noi native Vo Xuan Tu, 58, to work in the ring.

He told Tu to bring a briefcase full of drugs and VND10 million ($450) in cash to HCM City from Hai Phong. — VNS
