HA NOI (VNS) – The Ministry of Transport has approved a circular permitting drivers traveling in residential areas to increase their maximum speed by 10km/h compared to current laws.

The new law will go into effect on March 1 this year.

Accordingly, the maximum speed in residential areas will be divided across two road categories, as seen in the table below:

Types of roads

Maximum speed (Km/h)

Two-way roads with a center divider or one-way roads with at least two lanes for motor vehicles

60

Two-way roads without a center divider or one-way roads with only one lane for motor vehicles.

50

The maximum speed outside residential areas is 80km/h on two-way roads without a center divider or one-way roads with only one lane for motor vehicles, which is similar to the current laws.

However, for two-way roads with a center divider or one-way roads with at least two lanes for motor vehicles, the maximum speed will increase by 10km/h to 90km/h.

More detailed information can be found in Circular 91/2015/TT-BGTVT. — VNS
