TAY NINH (VNS) — Police in the southern Tay Ninh province yesterday detained four persons to investigate their activities in the manufacture, storage, sale and illegal use of military weapons.

They are Nguyen Tan Phat, 47, and Tran Huu Phuoc, 33, of Cu Chi District, and Ta Van Rang, 54, Nguyen Huu Duc, 42, of Tan Chau District, in HCM City.

Phat and Phuoc were arrested last Friday while they were on their way to sell two home-made guns with dozens of different types of bullets and 150 grams of explosives.

At the police station, Phat confessed that he was working as a scrap collector and it was easy to find used devices which he repaired to sell to customers.

Each gun cost between VND10 million and VND14 million (US$454 to $636), with an additional 20 bullets, he said.

While searching their house, the police also seized one airgun, six boxes of bullets and seven homemade bullets, with items related to the manufacture.

During investigations, the police also arrested two buyers, Rang and Duc, and seized five more home-made guns, 72 bullets, 40 detonators and 2.2kg of explosives, along with other pieces.

They told the police that they bought the guns to hunt wild animals. However, after checking, the guns displayed the same functions as military weapons. — VNS
