QUANG NINH (VNS) — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a pilot project allowing tourists' vehicles to cross Mong Cai Border Gate in the northern province of Quang Ninh.
The border gate is between Viet Nam's Mong Cai City and China's Dongxing City.
Accordingly, the Vietnamese and Chinese will be allowed to drive their personal cars under nine seats through the gate, starting from now to the end of 2016.
The cars have to travel in groups and are only allowed to travel in the area of Mong Cai city.
They are supposed to obey the local laws of the two countries.
A representative of Quang Ninh People's Committee said that each country had appointed a tourism enterprise to manage and complete the procedures for vehicles traveling through the border gate.
This move is expected to create advantages for tourists and promote tourism between the two countries.
The vehicles transporting goods and serving the work of the State and the government have been allowed to travel through this border gate since 1992.
However, Chinese tourists have been reissued entry permits upon arrival at the gate since August 2013.
Earlier, in September last year related ministries from Viet Nam, Laos and Cambodia permitted vehicles to move freely among the three countries. — VNS
